Eating out in Delhi is an unforgettable experience

Food is the mainstay of the culinary world and in a place like Delhi that witnesses an amalgamation of the traditional and the new, one can only imagine what they could be served with on their plates. When deciding where and what to eat, chic and welcoming fine dine establishment springs up on our minds. Are we neglecting the basics? Street food has been a vital part of our lives.

As kids we’d run to a nearby street food vendor for paani poori or a chaat and not a fine dine. As we grow, we chose to see only the shinier and glossier picture and follow the modern trend of eating out at fine dines just because it makes us look good – adds to our image and impression. We fail to understand that the joys in life are with the finer and little things and the joy and excitement of gorging on paani poori could never substitute for an 8-course meal at a restaurant.

There are restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner and even snacks, but would we really visit a restaurant for a quick bite? Some would, but the larger population are somewhat always found snacking away at roadside stalls and rickshaw food hawkers.

restaurant in vasant kunj

Last week, we went to this fantastic restaurant in Vasant Kunj in New Delhi and the experience was wonderful. The menu selection was just apt and had all that we were looking forward to. This place reflects a rustic feel that I could somehow connect with to a traditional highway food stall. It was an experience most cognitive to eating out with friends rather than this group of wonderful middle-aged individuals. Memories of evenings spent on-campus in Delhi and eating out at this food stall that served a variety of paranthas flooded in.

These are memories that stay alive and if any restaurant in Delhi could trigger that feel, it would be worth my time and money.
